Scavenger Hunt

For our first activity for the SLJ we were introduced to Nano girl. Nano is a lady who teaches people about science.

The first activity with Nano girl was going for a scavenger hunt for materials that would be used for the next 6 weeks.

I enjoyed doing this task because I could look around the classroom looking for different material.

Fishy False Teeth.

For the summer learning journey we did a activity called fishy false teeth.

First we watched a video and read an article about two friends on a boat talking to each other. I made a comic strip about two friends having a conversation over who can fish.

I enjoyed making the comic strip because I got to choose what they said.

Maths| Fractions

Fractions are one whole thing divided into equal pieces.

A fraction of a set is a whole group divided into a smaller groups. Fractions have two parts, the  denominator and the numerator. The dominator tells the size of the fraction. For example: the size of 4/5, is fifths. The numerator shows how many pieces there are. For example: for 4/5 there are four pieces so the fraction is four fifths.

Reading | QAR

This week we did a QAR on a book called: Change our schools uniform.

First we had to read the whole book. Next we had to put the questions in the right text box. The different text boxes were:
Right there for that you could point at the text.

Next is think and search when the answer is in the book but in different places.

Third is author and you when the answer is not in the text and you have to use you background knowledge.

The last box is on my own and you come up with a answer using you own knowledge.

This task was kinda of hard because I didn't know where all of the questions needed to go. I also like this task because I learnt learning new techniques and strategies.

LI. To identify the main ideas.

Inquiry

Emergency shelters are protection against natural disasters such as a storm or an earthquake.

The Protectors requested aluminum foil, hard plastic, metal poles, clay,  chicken wire, and plaster of paris.

The aluminum foil is for the inside of the shelter, the foil is used because it is a good insulator and heat reflector.

The hard plastic is for the windows, the hard plastic is used because it’s easier to shape than glass.

The metal poles are for stabilization, it was used because it is a heat reflector insulator.

The clay is used to form most of the shelter, it was used because it is tough, so if the shelter topples over then the poles will not easily break off.

The plaster of Paris and the chicken wire is used for a similar purpose as the aluminium foil, they were used because they were used to hold the clay.

The tin can is used for the door, the front and the back of the shelter. The purpose of this shelter was to protect against bushfires.

Emergency shelters are used worldwide and are very important. There are a lot of steps you need to do to build an emergency shelter.

Kiwi sport

Today for kiwi sport we learnt how to do the 3 man drive.

First we started off by doing the three man drive. After doing the three man drive we did the 2 man drive. As we did the man drives we had a letter the runner is the letter A the second person is B and the last person is letter C.

To do the 3 man drive you have to run with 3 people. When the person with the ball gets touch the person plants the ball on the ground then steps over it. so the second person can pass the ball.

To do the 2 man drive two people run up and the person when the person with ball gets touched. They plant the ball down then runs at the back of the other person so they can pass the ball.

I enjoy learning how to do the three man drive and the two man drive.
