Maths

For maths we were doing maths word problems in division.

To solve a division problem follow these instruction.

First We did maths word problems. We split the story into 4 parts.

The first part is how much things we have. Example: I have 4 tennis balls.

The second part is how much groups your splitting it into. Example: I shared them between 2 people.

The third part is how much each person got. Example: Each person got 2 tennis balls.

The fourth part is the equation. Example: 4  2 = 2.

Inquiry

Insulation is used to stop heat from traveling. There were 5 materials tested for the ability to insulate: glass, plastic, metal, paper and polystyrene.

A good insulator for keeping things warm is: paper, polystyrene and plastic. The worst is tin and glass.

A good insulator for keeping things cool is: glass, plastic and paper. The worst is polystyrene and tin.

The one best material for keeping things warm and cool is paper.

LI. To  learn and practise experience methods.

Kapu

For maori we translated the maori words into the english words.

First we were given a list of maori words. Then we had to translate them into the english words. After that we had to highlight the words that we got correct.

Next we had to do an activity where we had to find out the maori meaning on the card. We also used the maori dictionary to help us find the meaning.

Reading

For reading we were doing skimming and scanning

Scanning is looking through the book for keywords and key question.

Skimming is reading sentences to get a idea of the book.

We used skimming and scanning on a book called (Ants on the march) Next we had to find 3 key words and 2 key questions. After that we had to define one of the keywords. Next we had to attribute a image. We also had to find 4 facts.

SSR Selfie

My book was called Why do bears go fishing. It was created by Miles Kelly. It was a non fiction. This book was about bears. One of the three facts I found out was that brown bears can charge upto 50 kilometers. But the main topic was bears fishing. The most interesting thing that I learnt about the book is that the sun bear has the longest tongue out of all bears.

Brainstorming

For writing we had to brainstorm ideas to make a persuasive speech.

Brainstorming is thinking about multiple ideas. Leon and I wrote down reasons on why a person wanted a statue to be taken down. One of the reasons why is because it would be a waste of time and money.

Next we wrote down 3 topics. School, home and community. We had to write 3 reasons about those topics. One of the topic I chose was to. Not litter around your school. because you can kill animals and you it can make you school look ugly.

LI. To brainstorm possible topics.

Inquiry

This week for Inquiry we were learnt about experiments. Then we tested how absorbed paper towels are.

First we choose a certain material. The material I chose was paper towels.

Next we took the paper towels using a scale we then weighted it up to 50 grams. Then we placed the paper towels in the tote tray.

After that we measured water upto 100 ml. Then we added 5 drops of food coloring.

Next we poured the water onto the paper towels to see if the paper towels absorbed any water.

After that we checked to see if all the water was absorbed. The water that was not absorbed we had to measure. But for my group the paper towels absorbed all the water.

Maori

For Maori we learnt about body parts.

First we learnt the names of body parts. Next we highlighted the words that we knew and left the ones that we didn't know.

Next we matched the maori body parts with the english words. The words that we didn't know we looked them up in the maori dictionary.

I barely know the body parts in maori so I should learn the body parts that I don't know

Here is a list of body parts in maori:

Divisions

Division is sharing objects among a number of groups evenly. For example: Someone had 20 counters. Then they shared it among 4 people. So each person has 5 counters.

These slides show some divisions using counters.

 LI. To share objects evenly.
