Commenting Thread

Today I replied to Naki's comment about my blog post about reading.

The question that I asked Naki was: Do you have any other strategies or have you ever summarize a book before?

I like this task because I get to learn open questions.

Cook Island Food

Fotu and I have been given  challenges because it is Cook Island language week. Fotu and I finished a task that was to learn how to pronounce Cook Island foods.

First we created a google slide for where we are going to put pictures of different foods. After writing the foods we had to find out how to say them in Cook Island.

After we practised saying in Cook Island and we were confident we had to take a video of ourselves saying the food names in Cook Island.

I enjoy doing these challenges because I got to learn a new language about foods.

SSR Selfie

This week I read a book called Diary of a Wimpy kid.

The main topic about this book is that the Wimpy kid goes on a summer holiday with his friends but then nothing goes the way he wanted it. As in he wanted to have a pool and chill but then he got kicked out of the pools. And now he just stayed in side of his house.
LI. To summarize and retell a text

Kiwisport

For swimming we were doing 5 skills. Streamline, Arms straight and behind ears, Fast kicking and
slow at strokes, Rolling,Diving. Our teacher's name was James.

The first skill was streamline is when I had to hold my arm straight up in the air then as then push and swim.

The second skill was called arms straight and behind ears that is the same like a streamline but you put your arms at the back of your head.

The third skill we did was called Fast kicking, slow at strokes it was when I had to do a streamline but I kick fast but my strokes have to be slow.

The fourth skill we learnt was called Diving that is when I had to use the streamline pose then dive diagonal into the pool but not all the way down because you might hit your head.

The last skill we did was called rolling that is when I had to swim then role on my back so I can breath then switch back to my stomach.

LI. To learn the safety of water

Figurative language

Figurative language is figuring out the meaning of what a person says.

There is 5 different figurative language.

A Simile is comparing 2 things using "like" or "As"

A Personification is giving a human trait to objects and ideas.

A Metaphor is comparing 2 thing without using "like" or "As"

A Hyperbole is a exaggeration to show strong feeling or effect

A Understatement is expressing with less strength than expected.

Rahi and the Patupairehe

This week we were learning to summarize. We also connected to visualizing and inferencing to help us. We filled in a story web to summarize each part of the story. I used my visualisation from week 1 to help separate the part of the story. I used my character inference trails to use adjectives and evidence to help summarize quicker. Connecting all 3 strategies helped me to understand the story characters and keywords. The game Ki O Rahi is based on this story.
